Cemeteries of Lynn, Massachusetts
Western Burial Ground
The Western Burial Ground is at the western end of Lynn Commons. Bound by busy roads and surrounded by a chain-link fence, the cemetery is well cared for, clean and tidy. Many of the founding families of Lynn are well represented here, including the Alleys, Breeds, Mansfields and, of course, Lewises.
Thomas Lewis was the son of John Lewis, Edmond's oldest son. He was a yeoman and inherited the farm at Wood End from his father. Thomas married Mary Breed, daughter of Allen Breed, Jr. and Elizabeth Ballard. There are many Ballards and Breeds buried in the Eastern Burial Ground. The Breeds owned Breed's Hill in Boston, site of the Bunker Hill/Breed's Hill battle of the Revolutionary War.
